IoT slidedeck 2021-07 update

On regular basis, I’m updating my IoT slide-deck used for trainings, MooC and conferences. You can find in the attached pdf more than 260 slides about IoT market, use-cases and technologies.

Feel free to use it for your own training, presentations, content is free to use, please just place a link to this website as a counterpart.

On this new revision, has 65 new slides about:

  • Helium LoRaWan network
  • Kineis
  • US915 and UK Regulation
  • IoT Uses cases
  • IoT ecosystem category of actors
  • LoRaWan protocol, join, rejoin procedures
  • Trust chain in IoT

We also have many slides updated.

  1. Hello, I believe that there is a small mistake in your document which is stating that google is a Fitbit competitor. Note that Google has recently bought this company. My second point is regarding open source projects it would be good to present some initiatives for instance air quality monitoring systems -> many solutions rely on proprietary cloud solutions (tuya). Best regards.

    • On the same slide “Google acquired Fitbit…” it can’t be more precise. Google has been a competitor before acquire it. The competitor list could be on the previous slide, btw, slides are support to speak.
I don’t know what are the open-source air quality solution, if you know some, let me know.

  2. Hello Sorry for the first point. I should change glasses. For the air quality monitoring hardware you can do one for CO2, temperature and humidity with the Sensirion SD40 dev kit which can be connected to an arduino, rpi, or ESP32 (M5Stick). Note that the ESP32-S3 with BLE 5 long range is now available and could be used as well. Best regards.

    • Th matter of DiY solution is that they are standalone one. Value from IoT devices comes from data volume, so an open-source project on air quality is not just hardware, it is also platform and open-data / open-api. This is why it is much more complex to create and support in term of budget. I’ve created a project on that area myteepi.com but it is not open-source, it is one of the proprietary solution. This is a project I would like to work on for smart city and understanding the temperature variation inside a city. But it needs a bit of money and time for designing low cost hardware and platform.
